East Hartford drivers in search of their next crossover vehicle have a selection to choose from, and those who did their homework likely narrowed down their list to include both the 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 and the 2016 Nissan Rogue. Both have similar price points and efficiency ratings, but when you want more power and more standard and available features, you’ll quickly see the 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 pull ahead of the crossover crowd. But don’t just take our word for it — let’s compare the 2016 Mazda CX-5 and 2016 Nissan Rogue side-by-side, and you can see for yourself how they stack up.

By the Numbers

While the 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 and 2016 Nissan Rogue are comparably priced when similarly equipped, there’s another number we need to examine that has the Mazda CX-5 clearly stepping ahead of its competition: horsepower. The Mazda CX-5’s 2.5L I4 engine generates 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque, offering up plenty of muscle for the daily commute and then some. The Rogue comes in at a respectable 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, which isn’t altogether terrible, but if you’re paying nearly the same amount, of course you’re going to want the extra power.

Plus, if you’d like the versatility of an SUV out of your crossover, be sure to consider towing capability. The Rogue’s max towing capacity is 1,000 lbs, which can’t compare to the Mazda CX-5’s 2,000-lb max towing weight.

Generous Appointments

So while the 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 and the 2016 Nissan Rogue are neck-and-neck for price, the CX-5 begins to take the lead with more power and a heftier towing capacity, and it ultimately tears away from the pack when you consider the standard and available features that you won’t find (or will have to pay extra for) on the Rogue. Features like fog lights, alloy wheels, and a manually interactive transmission are all standard on the CX-5, and you can add on a remote ignition, universal garage door opener, and a towing hitch to your CX-5 Sport AT FWD; none of those features are even available additions to the 2016 Nissan Rogue S FWD. When you consider both performance and features, it’s apparent that the Rogue just can’t keep up with the CX-5.
